The managing director of ITV Wales says the channel must continue to provide a real alternative to the public service broadcasters in Wales.

As Roger Lewis launched the commercial station's new autumn season of programmes yesterday he said the company, which has received some major investments recently, was offering a real choice to audiences.

A number of new programmes will be screened this autumn, including Cool Cymru, which follows photographer Terry Morris as he captures the stars.

'We are very proud of what our colleagues at BBC Wales do and we are very supportive of them and we are also very proud of the work we do for S4C,' said Mr Lewis. 'But it's so important there's another voice in Wales beyond the digital switchover.'

Among the other new programmes ITV Wales viewers can look forward to this autumn are How The Other Half Live, a look behind the doors of Wales' stately homes, and Family Detectives, which traces the people of today who are descended from yesterday's famous faces.
