A taste for adventure

The Cool Cymru Collection book details a series of adventures that led to the creation of Wales 's first photographic hall of fame.

One tells of Terry Morris's trip to LA to picture Welsh screen star Ioan Gruffudd on Frank Corrente's classic cars forecourt.

On that hot August morning, Frank had given pride of place to a wow-factor old black Buick and a beautiful 1950 white convertible Cadillac.

The car dealer knew nothing about Welshman Terry before the photographer turned up at his Sunset Strip business with the Hollywood hero.

He thought there might be a little money in the photo shoot - but once assured it was to raise funds for the Children's Hospital for Wales, he dropped thoughts of payment.

Frank climbed into his white Caddy and wheeled it out slowly across the sidewalk. It became Terry's photographic prop, where it stood, for 20 minutes.

The motor man's generous actions mirrored much of what had gone before in the photographer's 16-month quest to capture star names in original poses.

It's hard to convince the managers and agents of some celebrities that a client's time would be well spent being photographed for free by a photographer not known to them - and for a project that's far from complete.

But Terry was determined to celebrate Welsh excellence, to recapture the spirit of thoughtful, artistic photography, and to explore the lasting, positive effects of the '90s Cool Cymru phenomenon.

And you know what? He did the lot!
